global hunger and food insecurity

Global hunger and food insecurity are major issues that affect millions of people worldwide. According to the **World Food Programme**, as many as **783 million people** are facing chronic hunger, and the current global hunger and malnutrition crisis is enormous ¹. The causes of hunger and famine are complex and multifaceted, but some of the leading factors include conflict, economic shocks, climate extremes, and soaring fertilizer prices ¹.

Around **2.3 billion people** in the world were moderately or severely food insecure in 2021, which is an increase of **350 million** compared to before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic ³⁴. Nearly **924 million people** faced food insecurity at severe levels, an increase of **207 million** in two years ³⁴.

The United Nations has set a goal to end hunger and malnutrition by 2030, but this will require significant investment and action from governments, organizations, and individuals around the world ¹. There are many ways to help, such as donating to organizations that provide food assistance, supporting sustainable agriculture, and advocating for policies that address the root causes of hunger and food insecurity ¹.

It's important to remember that hunger and food insecurity are not just statistics, but real issues that affect real people. By working together, we can help ensure that everyone has access to the food they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
